Ted Lawson, General Manager of Mahnke Auto Body Brighton, was born into a family of “Car Guys.” From an early age he received hands-on training and shop experience in collision and mechanical repairs from professionals. With a smile, Ted says he often heard the hum of the dual action sander in the background.
Ted finds purpose and genuine satisfaction by helping others, specifically when solving complex mechanical and collision repair problems and making the repair the best that it can be.
Creative design and fabrication is another talent of Ted’s that was recently utilized by Brighton Fire Department’s request for a portable bench seat to be used in demonstrations of installation for Baby Car Seats. Below is an example of Ted’s work and you can see two fire fighters on display with his unique & effective design below!
Ted’s exposure to solving real world mechanical problems did not serve him well as he sat uninspired in traditional high school classrooms. He’d have preferred lessons which could be applied to daily life. For instance; how to re-fit the stabilizer-link ball joint in his 1978 Ford F-250 Highboy.
Thankfully, Ted’s next door neighbor, Tim Grauberger, head of the Automotive Collision Repair Program at Morgan Community College invited Ted and a few fellow students to enter MCC’s combined High School-College program.
At MCC, Ted completed both his high school requirements and his Associate of Applied Science Certificate in Collision Repair and Estimating Technology. Grauberger also encouraged Ted and fellow students to compete in the workforce development program, SkillsUSA. Ted won at Regional, State, took 3rd Place at Nationals. He has since served many years as a judge at Colorado’s SkillsUSA State Competitions.
MCC’s internship program also assisted Ted in securing a position at the home office of American Family Insurance, the door to his first full-time job. Over several years at American Family, Ted received valuable experience as an adjuster and team leader. The time came when Ted decided to return to his collision repair roots, preferably in a family owned environment. He found a fit with Mahnke Auto Body’s work culture and the company’s commitment to sponsoring continuing education for employees, especially I-CAR.
Ted’s career path with Mahnke began at Mahnke Auto Body Frederick as a Repair Planner in March of 2015, advancing to Lead Repair Planner in 2017, and then to Repair Planner-Production Office Lead.
Mahnke’s CEO, Sam Mahnke, promoted Ted to General Manager of Mahnke Auto Body in Brighton, Colorado in April of 2019. Ted’s personal mission, which aligns perfectly with Mahnke’s Core Values, is to consistently provide the highest quality repairs possible, while actively supporting a work environment employees are happy to return to, day after day.
Ted and his artistically gifted wife, Ashley, are blessed with three children; Gabriel, Talia and Andrew. Mahnke Auto Body greatly appreciates Ted’s leadership and that both Ted and Ashley have given generously of their personal time to support Mahnke’s efforts in creating a rewarding, family and community oriented business.
